Project Background

A 5,000 t/d modern cement plant operates continuously 24/7. Its conveying system handles multiple materials: coarse limestone from quarry, clay, raw meal powder, and hot cement clinker discharged from rotary kiln. The clinker temperature ranges from 180°C to 260°C, with sharp, abrasive surfaces. Previously used standard rubber belts suffered rapid rubber aging, surface cracking and cover peeling under high temperature and impact. Frequent belt replacement caused unplanned shutdowns and raised maintenance costs.

Challenges

  • Hot clinker burns and ages conventional rubber cover
  • Hard, angular limestone and clinker create strong impact and abrasive wear at transfer chutes
  • Fine cement powder penetrates belt edges and accelerates carcass damage
  • Non-stop production requires long service life and minimum downtime.

Solution

Heat & abrasion resistant EP rubber conveyor belts were selected. The top cover adopts EPDM heat-resistant rubber compound with thicker cover thickness. The polyester canvas carcass delivers low stretch and high tensile strength. For raw material lines, heavy-duty abrasion-resistant rubber belts are deployed to absorb lump rock impact.

Application Result

After installation, belt service life increased from 6–8 months to over 24 months. Unplanned downtime caused by belt failure dropped significantly. Stable material transportation for limestone crushing, raw mill feeding and hot clinker transfer was guaranteed. The plant cut annual belt procurement and labor cost by around 32%. Dust spillage was also reduced via proper belt troughing design.
