Project Background
A coastal bulk cargo port handles large volumes of wheat, corn and soybeans for import and export. The belt system transfers grain from ship unloaders to grain silos. Materials are dry granular grain with occasional straw, broken grain and small hard impurities. The port has salty coastal air, big temperature variations and high humidity in summer. Early belts suffered surface aging, cracking and slippage issues.
Challenges
- Coastal salt fog accelerates rubber aging
- Light material but high continuous running hours
- Grain dust builds up on rollers and may cause belt deviation
- Low noise and food-grade friendly surface requirement for grain contact.
Solution
Light-weight anti-aging EP rubber conveyor belts with food-safe cover compound. Smooth low-friction top cover prevents grain adhesion. Anti-tearing edge construction and anti-deviation guide rollers are equipped.
Application Result
The belts run smoothly year-round. Service life reaches over 30 months. Belt aging and cracking problems caused by marine salt fog are greatly reduced. Grain spillage is minimized, and continuous loading/unloading efficiency of bulk grain is improved. Port maintenance frequency is lowered.
